Tissue specific promoters drive gene expression specifically in certain types of cells or tissues. Tissue specific promoters may be utilized for a variety of applications, including gene overexpression/knockout/knockdown in specific cells or tissues in vivo, in vivo imaging and gene therapy. Cell-type-specific promoters in combination with viral vectors and gene-editing technology permit efficient gene manipulation in specific cell populations.
