Lentiviral particles are usually kept in PBS or cell culture medium at -80°C. Freeze-thaw and temperature fluctuation significantly decreases lentivirus titers. Lentivirus titers may drop 30% after one freeze-thaw, and almost gone after 5-6 freeze-thaw cycles, making it difficult to keep experiments consistent. 

LentiShield^TM lentivirus storage buffer was developed to prevent lentivirus titer loss during freeze-thaw cycles and temperature fluctuation. Lentiviral particles stored in LentiShield^TM lentivirus storage buffer keep more than 90% of the functional titers after 6 freeze-thaw cycles, and after storage at -80°C for 2 years.
